Mr. Goozner has it half right. One thing that I think conservatives generally get wrong is that the health "reform" will result in a very open process of rationing, where the "science" is all out in the open - kind of like the "stimulus" website (www.recovery.gov) where the government claims to have bailed out 7 jobs milking cows in some county in Nebraska, and stuff like that.

As a Canadian in the U.S., it's clear to me that many Americans think that governments ration care by telling patients to "take a number", you have a spot in a queue, and you log into a website periodically to find out how the line is moving! Nothing could be further from the truth. Because such information is harmful to the governments' interests, they keep it dark. If it weren't for the privately funded Fraser Institute (www.fraserinstitute.org), nobody would have good information about the waiting times and lack of medical technology in Canada.

Obviously, transparency in deciding what treatments to exclude would be politically suicidal. We can have little doubt that the Secretary will continue to deny that the USPSTF recommendations will have any effect.

If Maggie thinks she is seeing rage now, wait till she sees the rage that will emerge on the left when this whole health reform effort falls apart.

You and Gene Steuerle are right. No one is paying any attention to these problems. It makes me think we are going to have a big mess on our hands.

The Hennessey post is mind jarring. If you're illegal, you get free care and pay no fine. If you a citizen, you get the same free care and the government fines you because you didn't buy insurance. Go figure.
