President Lectured on HSAs at Prayer Breakfast

The speech was by Dr. Benjamin Carson, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. It is entertaining. Informative. And pointed. The president had to sit on the dais and hear that Political Correctness is bad for everybody (Carson BTW is black), the debt and the deficit are huge problems, a flat tax is the only fair way to collect revenues, and the solution to our nation’s health care problems is a universal, lifetime Health Savings Account. Then, because everyone else gave him a standing ovation, the president felt compelled to stand and clap as well. (Carson is much more gracious BTW than the president was in his demeaning treatment of Paul Ryan and the Supreme Court justices. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.)

I read about this over the weekend. Very interesting piece. I like his idea about being able to transfer left over money in your HSA’s to relatives after you pass on.

There’s an important point in the comparison between Dr. Carson and President Obama that most seem to forget: Carson is a doctor trained to identify a problem and treat it; whereas Obama is a politician. Identifying a problem and solving it are not always what’s good for politics. This is especially true in cases where the best way to solve the problem is by empowering people in ways they won’t need the further assistance of politicians.

That was a terrific speech by Dr. Carson.

Interesting post. I will have to try and watch the video of the speech as I find it very fascinating. Dr. Carson is a tremendous doctor at the very forefront of neurosurgery and if anyone knows how to find solutions to complex problems, it would be Dr. Carson.

Last year I saw “Gifted Hands,” a movie about Dr. Carson’s life trajectory. I did not know much about him in the past, but now I can easily say it is safe to assume Dr. Carson is a credible intellectial source, especially when it comes to anything health-related.

  6. Gabriel Odom says:

“We have dumbed things down to that level and the reason that is so dangerous is because the people who founded this Nation said that our system of government was designed for a well-informed and educated populace, and when they become less informed, they become vulnerable. Think about that. That is why education is so vitally important.” – Dr. Carson

    This speaks volumes.

    That speech was singularly moving.
