RomneyCare, Part II
The legislative process would also seem to reinforce a technocratic belief, as the 349-page law passed 14 hours after the final language was released, and most lawmakers had little idea what they were voting on. A full summary was never compiled before the vote, and no cost estimate was ever conducted. As a result, supporters are able to claim the bill will save $200 billion without providing any justification for such a claim.

Does anyone every read the fine prints any more?
If they don’t know what they are voting on, how can they know how the law is going to play out?
I dont understand why these laws are so long. Our entire government was formed and developed on a few pages.. why do we need 400-2,000 page laws?
Herald, I completely agree. The U.S. Constitution, including all amendments, comes to under 30 pages when using the standard 12 point Times New Roman font. These are the laws that the people of the United States have dictated to their government. It’s only fair that the government keep their laws for its citizens comparably simple.
Herald, there was a Colbert skit about the length of legislation. Worthwhile viewing.
@Prince,
There is a piece on Pam’s blog that talks about how much money tax compliance could save people…
This looks similar to a PATRIOT act. Such a shame that people are still being bullied by a bunch of “experts” who probably don´t even know where is Australia. And the same people are telling you that immigrants are bad and war is good and Obama is great and guns are bad, and Mexico is your colony and American students still think they are the smartest people on the Earth. Oh C´mon
