The event reminder on Melissa Weinblatt’s iPhone buzzed: 15 minutes till her shrink appointment.

She mixed herself a mojito, added a sprig of mint, put on her sunglasses and headed outside to her friend’s pool. Settling into a lounge chair, she tapped the Skype app on her phone. Hundreds of miles away, her face popped up on her therapist’s computer monitor; he smiled back on her phone’s screen.

She took a sip of her cocktail. The session began.

    The internet is making it to where we can all work from home… or the pool. The big question is not whether or not it’s possible, but whether or not it’s a good idea. In my mind, the biggest issue is keeping company (or client) information private while you’re “working” at the pool.

    There is some evidence that online counseling works about as well as in-person counseling. In fact, an advantage of getting counseling in electronic form is the ability to go back later and re-read the conversation.
