The following is an excerpt from my article, “Medical Freedom or Medical Fascism?,” published at Campaign for Liberty’s web site (http://www.campaignforliberty.com/article.php?view=95).

“One of the President's key advisors on health care is Zeke Emanuel, brother of his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Dr. Emanuel is a bioethicist who writes in his blue print for health care reform "Health Care Guaranteed" that the most advanced radiation treatment for prostate cancer costs $42,000 compared to the about $11,000 of more basic radiation. In public talks he dismisses the value of the highly targeted radiation stating that its "only" benefit is decreased side effects from about 13% to 5%. But that is entirely the point of doing the more advanced and more costly radiation: to minimize side effects so higher doses of more curative radiation can be delivered. It appears he is okay with more than twice as many people having rectal bleeding and painful prostate and rectal inflammation after radiation — as long as it saves money for someone else.”

Devon, where do you get those numbers? Government sites for the US, Canada and the UK all give mortality rates for prostate cancer of about 25 per 100,000.

Jeff-
Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

As for Ken-
What is idiotic:
1) to believe that insurance will change its practice without a mandate to change
2) to take conservatives at their word (gets you into trouble every time)
3) to terrorize the elderly with fabricated tales of waiting times and rationing
4) to rule through intimidation like conservatives do
5) to accept blindly what ANY politician tells you
6) to give more weight to possible outcomes while ignoring the reality
7) to continue to pay someone when that person routinely violates their half of a buisness contract
8) to value profit over life
9) to expect a different result without changing the approach
10) to belittle the victims rather than the criminals
11) to minimize the problem and/or avoid the problem rather than dealing with the issue with honesty and integrity.

What is NOT idiotic:
1) to have hope for the future
2) to expect fair returns for money spent
3) to fix a system that is seriously broken
4) to ensure that insurance acts in a responsible manner
5) to expect that medical decisions be made by the patient rather than an insurance geek
6) to destroy the monopoly in health-insurance and ensure true market competition
7) to expect that buisness pass savings on to the customer rather than pocket the savings and pass only the cost
8) to ensure that insurance is secure
9) to expect that our government actually fulfill its obligations to protect its citizens
10) to actually do the right thing regardless of the consequences.
11) to vote on legislation on its individual merits rather than because the author of the proposed legislation happens to be a member of your opposing political party, (as conservatives have done during the Obama administration).

Jeff, what planet are you living on?

You sound like the Democrats in Congress who, after spending all year negotiating a deal with the insurance companies behind closed doors, now decide to go home and publicly campaign against them. And in the process accuse all their opponents of being tools of insurance companies.

Do you think we are all idiots?

A good way to learn about how Sen. Dodd might fare under ObamaCare, look at prostate cancer survival in countries with health care systems the likes of which Dodd would like to see in this country. Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the U.K. and 457 percent higher in Norway than in the United States.

If members of Congress were required to purchase health insurance back home in their states, I suspect the health reform debate would take on a different flavor.

Parkinson's disease is caused by deterioration or death of certain neurons in a brain area known as substance nigra. These neurons produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter responsible for transmitting the signals between the substance nigra and the corpus striatum, upon a good muscle activity.
The decrease in dopamine production in patients causes an inability to direct or control their movements as normal, due to lack of nerve cells in the striatum. Studies that findrxonline has shown that Parkinson's patients have a loss of 80% or more of dopamine-producing cells in the substance nigra. The cause of this cell death or damage is unknown.
