In the U.S. health care advertising is rather limited. Hospital advertisements promote vague images of quality. The Scooter Store promises seniors a free power chair paid for my Medicare. Clinics that scam Workers' Comp advertise by promising free care and a lawyer’s phone number. The only medical advertising in the United States from providers competing on price is for corrective eye surgery, orthodontics and cosmetic surgery. These services are all paid for out of pocket. Surprisingly, US patients can go to Canada, pay cash, and go to the head of the waiting lines. Canada has global budgeting. Until ObamaCare, the law said that US Medicare patients had to be afforded the same kind of care as was available in the private sector. ObamaCare does away with the private sector benchmark and paves the way for global budgeting by government. Get ready for the bus ads.
